Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady, a long time advocate of independent and small business, was today awarded the Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Business. Congressman Brady has earned this distinction for the last eight years.
“As a former Chamber of Commerce manager, I know first hand small and independent businesses represent the life blood of our nation’s economy. I will always stand up and fight to limit regulation and lessen the tax burden our Main Street hometown businesses, entrepreneurs, ranchers, and farmers face,” said Brady.
“Rep. Brady is a stalwart champion of small business, having stood strong on the key small-business votes in the 108th Congress,” Faris said. “This award conveys our appreciation for supporting the NFIB pro-growth agenda for small business and represents our commitment to do what it takes through Election Day to return Rep. Brady as a member of the 109th Congress.”
Lawmakers who vote with small business at least 70 percent of the time are eligible to receive the coveted “Guardian of Small Business” award. Congressman Brady received a 100% score from the National Federation of Independent Business.
Local Chamber of Commerce Presidents representing hundreds of businesses from across the eighth district weighed in on the news of Congressman Brady’s award.
“Congressman Brady has been a beacon of light for small business since coming to our area as President of the South Montgomery Woodlands Chamber of Commerce. He fought for small business in Austin and now is fighting for them in Washington. We consider him one of our strongest advocates and many of the programs he started for small business are still in place today. We are proud that NFIB has recognized one of our own with this prestigious award,” said Karen Hoylman, President of the South Montgomery Woodlands Chamber of Commerce.
“Congressman Brady has long been a friend of small business and continually leads efforts that give small business owners equal footing in our completive economy. We congratulate our friend on this award and know that he is always standing with us,” said Andy Dill, President Community Chamber of Commerce that serves East Montgomery County.
Jim Kollaer, president and CEO, Greater Houston Partnership said, “Kevin Brady is a champion of business for the Houston region. His leadership on issues that affect all of us in the area is unparalleled.”
In the U.S. House of Representatives, 12 key small-business votes taken during the 2003-2004 sessions determined the Guardian of Small Business recipients. Issues include tax relief, affordable health care, liability reform and regulatory reform.
