Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) today issued this statement and called on all citizens of the Eighth District to take a moment to pray for our Nation in observance of the National Day of Prayer.
“The National Day of Prayer allows Americans from across the country and from every faith to pray and seek God’s favor for our Nation and our people. Today, in the tradition of our founding fathers at the first Continental Congress in 1775, we seek the Lord’s guidance for our elected leaders and His grace and protection upon the thousands of service men and women who are defending our freedoms and soil overseas and here at home.
“Prayer is a vital part of our lives each and every day, not just on the first Thursday of May. I urge each and every citizen to daily remember our country in prayer.”
In 1952, a joint resolution by Congress, signed by President Truman, declared an annual, national day of prayer. The law was amended in 1988 and signed by President Reagan, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.
