Washington, D.C. - U.S. Capital Police identified a suspicious powder in mail sent to the office of the Senate Majority Leader on Monday. Tests identified the powder as Ricin, a potentially deadly toxin. Senate office buildings were closed as a result on Tuesday, and the U.S. Capitol Police launched an investigation.
As part of the investigation, an unknown amount of mail sent to members of Congress in Washington, D.C. over the next 4-5 days will be collected, tested, and likely destroyed.
Constituents who’ve recently sent Congressman Brady a letter to his Washington office are asked to resend their correspondence to the North or South District offices or use fax and email to forward correspondence to our Washington office. If it is an urgent or time sensitive matter, call any of our offices for immediate assistance.
We are sorry for any inconvenience and appreciate the patience of the good people of the eighth district while Capitol Hill Police protect members of Congress and their staff from the threat of biological agents.
