Brady votes to honor Dr. Norman E. Borlaug

Washington, D.C. - Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4924 to award a congressional gold medal to honor Dr. Norman E. Borlaug for his outstanding contributions to the United States and the world through agricultural biotechnology breakthroughs and his humanitarian efforts.

This former Nobel Peace Prize winner is credited with developing a high-yield, short-strawed, disease-resistant wheat crop.  Once it was perfected, he took these new cereal strains of wheat to Third World Countries to feed the hungry.

"Dr. Borlaug has been a role model to all and has positively impacted nearly every corner of the globe.  I am honored to salute him for bringing innovation to the world's food supply and saving millions from starvation.  He serves as a personal hero and inspiration to me," said Brady.

Currently, Dr. Borlaug lectures at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX as well as the International Wheat Improvement Program in Mexico.  He continues to share his wealth of knowledge and experience with students and peers alike.
