Brady Sets the Facts Straight on the So Called

"Medicare Donut Hole"

National Democrats Use Politics and Outdated Data to Scare Seniors

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) a member of the House Ways and Means Committee that developed the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan for seniors today responded to disingenuous reports about the Medicare "Donut Hole":

"Democrats in Congress ought to be ashamed for using an outdated two-year old study to frighten our Texas seniors. They are probably embarrassed that they held power in Washington for decades and never lifted a finger to help seniors with their medicines.

"The fact is that most seniors will never touch the so called donut hole. According to a respected PricewaterhouseCoopers study released this month only 8 percent of seniors will be affected - and all can avoid it completely by choosing a plan that meets their unique medicine needs.

"In Texas our seniors have five good plans at just $50 a month with no deductibles that covers them all the way through the so-called donut hole.

"Since the Medicare Prescription Drug benefit was put in place, nine out of ten Texas seniors now have help with their medicines. They are saving nearly half of their costs. I'm proud that our poorest seniors are getting their medicine almost free -- which is a real lifesaver.
