Port of Orange Awarded $696,500 Grant for

Security Facility

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) announced today that the Port of Orange has been awarded a $696,500 grant from the Department of Homeland Security.

The grant will fund construction of a security facility at the Port's main gate including an all weather inspection point for incoming and outbound vehicular traffic.  The Port will also upgrade existing access control to comply with TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) standards.

"This award is excellent news for the Port of Orange and represents an appropriate investment of federal funds to improve local security operations," said Brady.

The Port ships approximately 350 containers from local industry to the Port of Houston.  This new security facility will maintain national security standards and cargo integrity.

"This is the final phase of a three phase security project and will put the port in compliance with all of the Coast Guard and Homeland Security requests for access control," stated Port of Orange Director Gene Bouillon.

The total cost of the project is $1,393,000. Today's grant represents a federal match of 50 percent towards the project costs.
