Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-Texas) was honored in Galveston this past weekend as Legislator-of-the-Year by the Texas State Council of the Vietnam Veterans Association.
Brady received the award from Texas State Council President Buster Newberry.
He was nominated by Lee Derby, Treasurer of the Texas Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America and Commander of VFW Post 4709 in Conroe. Derby praised Brady's tireless efforts in pushing the U.S. Veterans Administration to move forward with establishing local veterans health care clinics announced for the Houston Region, including the one planned for Conroe.
Brady recently helped secure $25 million in the 2007 federal budget to build the highest priority local veterans clinics in the nation, the Conroe clinic among them.
"Our Vietnam veterans have sacrificed so much for our country, with very little thanks", said Brady. "They deserve our nation's support and I am proud to be counted among their advocates in Congress."
The motto of the VVA is "Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another."
With over 50,000 members and 525 local chapters, the VVA promotes and supports the full range of issues important to Vietnam Veterans including health care, jobs and homelessness.
