Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-Texas), member of the House Ways and Means Committee, released the following statement today as the House voted to honor Dr. Michael DeBakey the Congressional Gold Medal for a lifetime of accomplishments:

“Dr. Michael DeBakey is honored today with the highest award Congress can bestow upon an individual.  Since his days as a medical student, Dr. DeBakey has been pioneering medical breakthroughs.  His contributions to the field of medicine have spanned the better part of 75 years and have earned many accolades not only for himself, but also for the City of Houston.  I am proud to honor an outstanding Texan today with the Congressional Gold Medal,” said Brady.
