Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) released the following statement this afternoon after the House successfully voted to uphold President Bush’s veto of the controversial “timetable to surrender” funding bill pushed by the Democrat Congress:
“Democrat leaders are playing a dangerous game of chicken with the President”, said Brady. “Even worse, they are playing with our soldiers’ lives.”
“Setting politically-motivated deadlines not only guarantees defeat, but increases the violence against American troops in Iraq. Handing Iraq to the enemy and giving Al Qaeda their greatest victory invites future terrorist attacks here at home where many innocent American lives will be lost.”
Looking ahead, Brady says, “Washington Democrats are now proposing to provide war funding for only three months at a time to make sure this remains a potent political issue for them. With our troops in combat, that’s disgusting. I am hopeful Democrat leaders will take a deep breath, quit listening to MoveOn.org and Code Pink, and give our troops the funding they need to complete their mission and return home safely.”
