Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) issued the following statement opposing the Intelligence Authorization Act for FY 2008 which passed the House early today by a vote of 225-197
.
"This bill under funds our human and covert intelligence needs and starts to go back to the days when America’s intelligence force was diverted from its priority of national security and intelligence."
The 2008 Intelligence Authorization bill calls for the Director of National Intelligence to submit to Congress a national intelligence estimate (NIE) on the geopolitical effects of global climate change. This begins a return to the “politically correct” intelligence policies that undermined capabilities of the United States in the 1990s.
Brady continued, “This is not about objecting to the validity of global climate change; the concern is about whether it is an intelligence issue. We need to spend our nation’s intelligence dollars wisely, keeping the focus on issues that require classified information and resources, such as al Qaeda and threats to American lives and our families.”
