Washington, D.C. - Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) welcomes the bipartisan announcement by House Leaders and Administration officials on new trade language that paves the way for Congressional consideration of important trade pacts.
“This is a significant breakthrough,” said Congressman Brady. “The world marketplace won’t wait on America, so it’s important that Republicans and Democrats can speak with one voice on these critical economic issues.”
“This new agreement hopefully clears the way for trade deals we’ve negotiated with Peru and Panama, which will open up significant market opportunities in those countries for Texas businesses, workers, farmers, and ranchers. The announcement also provides momentum for a discussion on renewing the President’s trade promotion authority, and creates a platform to work out differences over trade agreements with Colombia and Korea, too.”
“For Texas, as the largest exporting state in the nation and with half a million jobs supported by trade, this deal is a meaningful step forward in securing our state’s future economic growth and security.”
Congressman Brady is a Member of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Trade Sub-committee. He is a leader on trade issues in the House, having successfully led a three year fight for Congressional passage of the U.S.-Dominican Republic-Central American Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA).
