Brady Honors Jasper Bulldogs by Wearing Team Uniform in Congressional Baseball Game

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-TX) will wear the uniform of the Texas 3A state champion Jasper Bulldogs in the 46th annual Congressional Baseball Game this Monday, June 25.  The game will be played at RFK Stadium in Washington, home of the major league Nationals.

Brady, who started on two state championship baseball teams in high school and played college ball as well, is the second baseman and lead-off hitter for the Republican team which has won nine of their last ten games with the Democrats.

What began as a casual game among colleagues in 1909 has evolved into one of Congress’s most anticipated annual pastimes. Each summer, Representatives and Senators don baseball uniforms, organize teams along party lines, and play ball for charity. In its long century, the Congressional Baseball Game has raised millions of dollars for local charities in the District of Columbia. Over time, it attracted crowds of congressional staffers and, at times, even drew dignitaries and Presidents as spectators. Last year’s game drew 6,000 fans and raised more than $100,000 for charity.

“Our district is blessed with very talented high school baseball teams. This year I am proud to wear the uniform of the state champion Jasper Bulldogs,” said Brady. “I just hope it brings me the same type of winning tradition.

Brady was MVP for the congressional game in 2005. In years past he has worn the uniforms of Sam Houston State University, Texas A & M University and last year the Texas 5A state champs, The Woodlands High School.
