Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) announced today that Walker County has been added to the Presidential Disaster Declaration for recent flooding making Walker County and impacted residents eligible to apply for FEMA public and individual assistance.
Residents in the communities of Greenrich Shores, Deep River Plantation and Riverside Harbor were greatly impacted by the flooding around Lake Livingston. FEMA’s preliminary damage assessment showed that 59 homes were affected by the flooding. Today’s announcement makes residents in Walker County eligible for individual assistance to help homeowners, renters and businesses recover from the effects of the flooding.
“I’m glad that FEMA has responded quickly to the needs of Walker County. If constituents had a home or other property damaged by this flooding, they should contact FEMA now to register for assistance. Don’t wait for FEMA to come to you, register on the phone or on-line today,” said Brady.
In addition, the county, local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations will now also be able to apply for Public Assistance (PA). Public Assistance is available to eligible applicants for debris removal and disposal, emergency services related to the disaster, and for the repair or replacement of damaged public facilities such as roads, buildings and utilities.
Individual Assistance —When a major disaster occurs, this program provides money and services to people in the declared area whose property has been damaged or destroyed and whose losses are not covered by insurance.
It is important to note that in every case, the disaster victim must register for assistance and establish eligibility.
