Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Kevin Brady (R- Woodlands) spoke at a press conference prior to attending the Social Security Subcommittee Hearing on employee verification. Mr. Brady stood with Representatives Sam Johnson, Paul Ryan, Gabrielle Giffords, and Dennis Moore to speak on the necessity of E-Verification and in support of Rep. Sam Johnson’s bill the New Employee Verification Act (NEVA).
The Act will achieve three important objectives: ensure a legal workforce, secure workers’ identity, and protect Social Security. This proposal replaces the current I-9 system with a new, effective electronic employee verification system that will make it easier for employers to verify employees and address the issue of illegal immigration.

“If we want to successfully shut the back door of illegal immigration, it’s critical that businesses be able to quickly and accurately verify their workers are legal. The New Employee Verification Act gives employers a better, more reliable, system to confirm their worker’s eligibility to work. This approval rejects the “Big Brother” solution and creates a smart decentralized 21st century solution to enforcing our laws. By changing the current structure, we ensure that we do not have an 8 track tape player system in an iPod world,” said Brady.
