Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady, who led an effort by nine members of the Texas congressional delegation to urge the Texas Department of Transportation to drop the proposed I-69 routes of the Trans Texas Corridor through rural Texas and restore the original route along existing highways, applauded today’s decision by TxDot to do just that.
 
“This is a victory for landowners and rural communities in Texas,” said Brady. “I applaud the new leadership at TxDot for listening to the profound concerns of the public about the proposed TTC corridors.”
 
“This decision allows the congressional delegation to work closely with state officials to find the resources to bring U.S. 59 up to interstate standards. Upgrading the current highways instead of building new corridors will restore public support. With all the new cars and trucks on the roads in the future, it’s important to act now to improve safety and relieve congestion along U.S. 59 through Texas.”
 
After listening to state and federal lawmakers and an overwhelming 28,000 public comments Texas Department of Transportation announced that they will be removing from consideration any new corridors for I-69. They now plan to focus on improving existing roadways—US 77, 281 and State Highway 44 in southern Texas, US 59 in the Houston region, and US Hwy’s 84 and 59 in the northeast portion of the state.
