IRAQ WAR: TROOPS ARE SUCCEEDING, DON’T LET POLITICIANS GIVE GAINS BACK
Brady Responds to General Petraeus’ Report

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Kevin Brady (R-Woodlands) responds to the report General Petraeus gave to Congress today:

“Undeniably, the surge is working and the Iraqi government is finally achieving many of the political benchmarks the United States government has set,” said Brady.

“But these gains are reversible,” warns Brady, who traveled to Iraq this summer to assess the surge. “Our American troops in Iraq have achieved hard-fought victories. I don’t want politicians in Washington giving them back.”

“Every day we further cement Iraq as a stable ally that works with us against terrorism in the Middle East, the safer our families are in America, and the sooner we can bring our troops home.”

According to the U.S. military since June 2007 civilian deaths have dropped significantly. Overall violence has decreased to levels that were last seen consistently in early 2005. Al Qaeda have been driven from many of the strongholds they once held, and over the past year, the United States military has captured or killed thousands of extremists in Iraq, including hundreds of key al Qaeda leaders and operatives.

From his seat on the House Ways & Means Committee, Congressman Brady has fought to continue to support our troops and fight terrorism.
