Conroe, Texas - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands) today announced the Montgomery County students who has secured a nomination from his office to one of our nation’s military service academies.
“A strong military has never been more important, and America’s service academies produce outstanding future leaders of our nation. Individuals who receive appointments to these distinguished institutions are outstanding leaders in their communities with proven character and integrity,” said Brady.
This year’s academy nominations from Montgomery County are:
Tyler Pigg, United States Air Force Academy (Woodlands Prep) Jacob Houder, United States Air Force Academy (Tomball HS) Jessica Smith, United States Air Force Academy (Willis HS) Nathan Miller, United States Air Force Academy (Magnolia HS) Paige Hawkins, United States Air Force Academy (Montgomery HS) Michelle Carter, United States Air Force Academy (Concordia Lutheran) Connor O’Sullivan, United States Naval Academy (The Woodlands HS) Travis Keating, United States Naval Academy (College Park HS) Michael Martin, United States Naval Academy (The Woodlands HS) Dylan Maya, United States Naval Academy (Magnolia HS) Aaron Denson, United States Naval Academy (Conroe HS) John deRoulac, United States Naval Academy (Montgomery HS) Christopher Burns, United States Naval Academy (Oak Ridge HS) Maggie Strong, United States Naval Academy (Magnolia HS) Adam Cashner, United States Naval Academy (Conroe HS) William Walls IV, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Conroe HS) Kevin Young, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (The Woodlands HS) Arianna Ebers, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Oak Ridge HS) Marcie Nordt, United States Military Academy (College Park HS) Mark Freeman, United States Military Academy (New Caney HS) Donald Van Velzer, United States Military Academy (Montgomery, TX)
Each member of Congress is guaranteed only one appointment to each academy, Air Force, West Point, Naval, and Merchant Marine. However, because the 8th Congressional District is known for exceptional candidates, Congressman Brady is hopeful many of this year’s nominations will be offered appointments.
In order to be offered an appointment to a military academy, a candidate must first be nominated by their U.S. Representative or Senator. In the case of Congressman Kevin Brady, students residing in the Eighth Congressional District of Texas are encouraged to apply to his office for a nomination. For students wishing to attend a military service academy in 2009, their completed application must be into Congressman Brady’s Conroe office no later than November 3, 2008.
Students interested in applying to one of the military academies should speak with their local high school guidance counselor. Congressman Brady’s office is coordinating service academy information with local high schools through these counselors. Students can also learn more about the process and download the application at www.house.gov/brady, or by contacting Brandon Reese in our Huntsville District Office at 1-936-439-9532.
