Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-Texas) defended Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach, M.D. against a recent call that he step down by a Michigan House Democrat sub-committee chairman.
“As commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach has led the FDA with uncommon insight and unquestionable integrity, despite constant and counter-productive harassment by this new Democrat-led Congress,” said Brady.
”Andrew von Eschenbach is one of the nation’s leading oncologists and urologic surgeons, and a cancer survivor himself. He understands firsthand the hope that patients place in new lifesaving medical breakthroughs. Thank goodness he makes his decisions based on objective science, state-of-the-art testing and the best available data rather than blindly bowing to the biased demands of politicians on Capitol Hill.”
“If Congress truly wanted to help the FDA better promote and protect the public health, it might spend less time lobbing rhetorical grenades and more time delivering a budget on time that fully funds the FDA’s critical priorities. That is, if it can tear itself away from the pressing business of steroid use in baseball.”
