Brady Expands 'Ed-Flex' Pilot Program Nation-WideWashington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Kevin Brady today voted for House passage of the Education Flexibility Partnership Act of 1999 ( ‘Ed-Flex' ) that would provide states with greater flexibility in using federal funds in exchange for increased accountability of student achievement. "Today the ‘Ed-Flex' pilot program, which Texas and eleven other states are currently using to provide our schools and communities the flexibility to make good decisions that are in the best interest of our children, was adopted nation-wide," said Brady. The pilot program and the Education Flexibility Partnership Act of 1999 allows states greater control of the dollar in exchange for greater accountability of school performance. Ed-Flex also provides opportunities for schools to get waivers from burdensome regulations to meet their individual needs. "Texas has successfully used Ed-Flex to improve student performance by allowing schools to offer self-designed programs to help disadvantaged children, reduce administrative paperwork requirements, and change the priorities for teacher development," said Brady. ###
