Brady Supports Tax Assistance For Personnel In Operation Allied ForceWashington, D.C. - - U.S. Representative Kevin Brady praises the passage of H.R. 1376, legislation which passed the U.S. House of Representatives today. The bill would extend tax relief for personnel involved in Operation Allied Force. "It's important that the American men and women of our armed forces, who are involved in Operation Allied Force, are totally focused on performing their task and keeping themselves as safe as possible," said Brady. The bill would extend combat zone tax benefits to those serving in or supporting Operation Allied Force by treating parts of the Balkan region as hazardous duty areas. Thus, military personnel serving in Yugoslavia, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, the Adriatic Sea, and the northern Ionian Sea would be entitled to various types of tax relief including: an exemption for compensation earned while in the hazardous duty area; a suspension of various tax filing and payment requirements; and an exemption from telephone excise taxes. "It requires a huge contingent of both military and non-military personnel to perform this type of operation. These men and women are risking their lives for our country and the least we can do is offer them a little tax assistance," said Brady. In addition, military personnel who are part of Operation Allied Force, but perform services outside of the qualified hazardous duty area, would qualify for the suspension of various tax filing and payment requirements. This is provided that their services are performed outside the United States and while deployed away from their permanent duty stations. ### Back Home / About Kevin Brady / 8th District Tour / Press Releases / Constituent Services / Sunset Legislation |
