Washington, D.C. - U.S. Representative Kevin Brady continues to praise House Ways and Means Chairman Bill Archer (R-TX) for his strong commitment to passing Social Security and Medicare legislation this year. "I have been speaking with folks at recent 'Cracker Barrel' sessions throughout the Eighth District, and they want Social Security and Medicare saved now," said Brady. "Social Security and Medicare must be saved now." In a continued effort to enact a bipartisan solution to preserve Social Security and Medicare this year, the House Ways and Means Committee will meet this week to analyze plans that the Social Security Actuaries, whose chief responsibility is the overall review of Social Security, estimate will achieve long-term (75-year) solvency of the Social Security system. "My goal is to find common ground and work together to save Social Security for all Americans this year, and I welcome any and all Members of Congress who have a plan certified that gets the job done," said Chairman Archer. President Clinton's Social Security framework was debated in the House Ways and Means Committee on February 11, 1999. It was rejected when the Social Security Actuaries determined that President Clinton's plan does not achieve long-term (75-year) solvency of the Social Security program. "It's time for the Clinton Administration to stop playing political games and come to the table with a plan that will preserve Social Security and Medicare for the long-term," said Brady. ### Back Home / About Kevin Brady / 8th District Tour / Press Releases / Constituent Services / Sunset Legislation |
