Brady Pushes For Responsible Tax Relief
"Today's Taxpayer Pays More in Taxes than Clothing and Shelter Combined"

Washington, D.C. - "Congress has an obligation and an opportunity to preserve Social Security for every generation once and for all. With what's left over after the Social Security surplus is preserved, we must provide responsible, annual tax relief to our familes and independent businesses," said Brady.

U.S. Representative Kevin Brady appeared in Washington at a packed rally with House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-TX), Republican Conference Chairman J.C. Watts (R-OK), Rep. Jennifer Dunn (R-WA), Rep. Rick Lazio (R-NY), and many other members of Congress, all of which pledged to work overtime to talk to the American people of the need for tax relief.

Rep. Brady reaffirmed his commitment to providing needed tax relief. Now is the time to pass legislation that will eliminate the Marriage Penalty Tax and Death Tax. The government penalizes couples for getting married. This unfair byproduct of the tax code forces the average married working couple to pay almost $1,400 more in taxes than a similar couple living together outside of marriage.

The Death Tax is simply double taxation. When someone who has paid taxes all their life dies, the surviving family is often forced to pay an additional tax of up to 55 percent on the property of the deceased - - even though the deceased spent their entire life paying taxes on that property.

Additionally, a 10% across-the-board tax cut means that every family will have an additional $7,500 per year. This is money you and your family decide how to spend, not the government.

"I disagree with the polls and the pundits who say Americans don't care about tax relief. They've obviously never been to my district, where families had to work until May 10 last year just to pay their federal tax bill," said Brady.
