New Civil War Exhibit
Learn more about the Capitol and the history of Congress during the Civil War
To commemorate the Civil War’s 150th anniversary, the Capitol Visitor Center has unveiled two new exhibits, one online and the other at the Capitol Visitor Center.
The online exhibit includes a timeline, historical facts, and civil war photographs. To visit and learn more about the Capitol and the history of Congress during the Civil War visit the online exhibit by clicking here.
The display at the Capitol Visitor Center includes documents and artifacts such as autobiographical accounts from former slaves and photographs taken by Matthew Brady—the first photographer to document an American war. Visitors may see these and other items of interest from the Civil War era through March 2012 in the Capitol Visitor Center’s Exhibition Hall.
