Statement of Chairman Joel Hefley and Ranking Minority Member Alan B. Mollohan

With regard to the complaint that was filed against Representative DeLay on June 15, 2004, we have, under our authority under Committee Rule 16(c), been requesting and obtaining information from persons having knowledge of the matters alleged in the complaint. That fact-gathering process is continuing and may not be completed until the date that it must end under Committee Rules, which is September 20, 2004. While we have been reviewing and discussing the information that has been obtained to date, we have not yet made any determinations regarding disposition of the complaint.

As we noted in our prior statements on this matter, in accordance with Committee Rule 7 on confidentiality, there will be no public comment on this matter from the Committee or its members except in the form of a joint statement by us or by the full Committee.
