Is it true that Congressman Frank has introduced legislation to fund ACORN?
Congressman Frank has not introduced any legislation whatsoever having to do with ACORN. However, Congressman Frank did oppose a provision in the Mortgage Reform and Anti-Predatory Lending Act which would prevent any housing organization which employs an individual indicted for a violation of federal election law from receiving federal housing funds.
Congressman Frank’s position is that the provision was too broad because it applied to individuals who had been charged, but not convicted of a crime. This violates the precept that individuals should be considered innocent until proven guilty. For more information, see the floor debate about this issue.
In addition, one Member of Congress has claimed that Congressman Frank has earmarked funds for ACORN. This is completely untrue – in fact, it was the Bush administration which allocated money to ACORN.
