South Florida Braces Itself for Traumatic Cleanup After Hurricane Wilma

By Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz

November 1, 2005

(Washington, DC)  --  South Florida was hit hard by Hurricane Wilma. We still have thousands of residents who have no power and many have been left homeless due to Wilma's wrath.

But in the face of disaster, I am in awe by the heroic efforts of hundreds of volunteers who have literally worked around the clock to provide assistance to those in need.

At this time of hardship, let us not forget the heroic efforts by our police, fire, EMTs and public employees who left their families and their households to do their duty and ensure our safety and provide timely answers to our questions. And finally, we need to remember to thank the electrical workers who are doing everything in their "power" to make our community whole again.

Since Wilma hit, my office has been inundated with inquiries and my hope is that we have provided you with proper guidance and assistance during these trying times.
