| U.S. Rep. Dale E. Kildee of Flint will be the lead Democrat on higher education issues in Congress.
Kildee this week was named the ranking member of the higher education subcommittee, which is called the 21st Century Subcommittee. The division of the Education Committee has jurisdiction over student loans, Pell grants and job-training programs.
Kildee will focus on reducing college costs and decreasing student debt in his leadership position, according to a news release.
Last session, Kildee served as the ranking Democratic member of the Education Reform Subcommittee.
