Flint-area: Arts contest for students under way
Area high school students can show off their artistic flair and compete for a $10,000 scholarship in the Annual Congressional Arts Competition.
U.S Rep. Dale E. Kildee, D-Flint, is inviting students throughout the 9th District - which includes Flint, southeastern Genesee County and northern Oakland County - to participate in the program.
A local winner will be invited to attend a reception where winning entries from across the nation will be on display.
The Savannah College of Art and Design will award a $10,000 scholarship to the student with the winning entry from each district.
The deadline for submissions is May 1. They should be submitted to one of Kildee's district offices at: 432 N. Saginaw St., Suite 410, Flint, MI 48502 or 1829 N. Perry St., Pontiac, MI 48340.
An awards ceremony will be held in the district on May 10 to announce the winning entry, judged by two local art professionals. All participants will receive an invitation to the district awards ceremony.
