Area: Scholarship top prize in congressional art competition The jackpot for the congressional art competition is getting sweetened.
The winner of the arts contest now will be eligible for up to a $12,000 scholarship from Savannah College of Art and Design. , Students also will receive a 10 percent discount on airfare to the awards ceremony in Washington, D.C, from Southwest Airlines.
U.S Rep. Dale E. Kildee, D-Flint, is inviting high school students throughout the 9th District - which includes Flint, southeastern Genesee County and northern Oakland County - to participate in the program.
An awards ceremony will be held in the district on May 10 to announce the winning entry, judged by two local art professionals. All participants will receive an invitation to the district awards ceremony.
The local winner will be invited to attend the Washington, D.C., reception where winning entries from across the nation will be on display.
The deadline for submissions is May 1.
