Flint: Kildee gets high marks from conservationists' group U.S. Rep. Dale E. Kildee, D-Flint, scored in the top echelon of Michigan's congressmen in a review by the League of Conservation Voters.
Kildee had an 86 percent pro-environment voting record, according to the group's analysis of what it considered key environmental votes. Among Michigan's congressional delegation, Kildee tied two others for third place.
"It's a tremendous honor to receive this commendation from the League of Conservation Voters," Kildee said. "My voting record on environmental issues reflects my strong commitment to protecting the health of our environment and the beauty of our natural resources."
Here's how other area politicans included in the report ranked:
U.S. Rep. James A. Barcia, D-Bay City, came in with 64 percent, the lowest of any Michigan Democrat.
U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Brighton, received a 7 percent. His district includes southern and western Genesee County, Livingston County and the southeastern corner of Shiawassee County.
U.S. Rep. Dave Camp, R-Midland, who represents the remainder of Shiawassee County, got a 14 percent.
On the Senate side, Michigan's Democratic duo ranked fifth in the nation with an average score of 94 percent.
The analysis is included in the League of Conservation Voters' 2001 National Environmental Scorecard.
