| U.S. Rep. Dale E. Kildee saved taxpayers $65,000.
Kildee returned the money to the Treasury Department by trimming his 2001 operating budget for offices in Washington and Michigan. It reflects a decrease in expenses such as travel and office equipment.
In all, Kildee has saved $1.2 million during his years of service, according to a press release issued Thursday.
"It has always been very important to me that taxpayers' money be spent carefully and prudently," Kildee said. "If we are to achieve a balanced budget, every part, every function of government must be combed for possible savings. Congress should not be exempt from these cuts."
