He's a congressman and a former teacher. Now, he has got an award named for him. The Center for Civic Education this week delivered a lifetime achievement award to U.S. Rep. Dale E. Kildee, D-Flint, for outstanding commitment to education.
Giving him an award wasn't good enough, though. They also made him the namesake for their annual award, crowning it the Dale E. Kildee Civitas Award.
"I am honored that the Center for Civic Education recognized my lifelong commitment to providing students with access to civic education programs," Kildee said.
As a ranking member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, Kildee has combated several attempts to eliminate civic education programs.
The Center for Civic Education is a nonprofit group, known best for its "We the People" curriculum used nationwide.
