| The city received more than $8 million in federal grants to help demolish abandoned homes, rehabilitate more than 300 homes for families and feed the homeless.
The federal Office of Community Planning and Development awarded Flint a $5.9-million community development block grant, a $2.2-million home investment partnership program grant and a nearly $200,000 emergency shelter grant.
"This funding will enable us to build a safe community and create job opportunities by providing affordable housing to low-income families," said U.S. Rep. Dale E. Kildee, D-Flint, who announced the grant.
