| Genesee County will get $200,000 in federal funds for the northeast relief sewer/Kearsley Creek interceptor.
U.S. Rep. Dale E. Kildee announced the money, which will help to pay for the project -- construction of 42 miles of sanitary sewer lines and two pump stations.
The county wastewater system now operating in Genesee County was constructed in 1964, and officials have said it is overburdened, contributing to sewer spills.
Drain Commissioner Jeff Wright has said the first phase of the project could begin in the fall.
