| The Elba Township Fire Department will fund training activities and purchase new protective firefighter equipment with a $40,500 federal grant.
The grant will help the Elba Township Fire Department to fully implement its rescue squad, Fire Chief Mike Burke said.
"We will be using the grant to purchase rescue tools and other equipment that will allow us to respond to any type of rescue in our community," Burke said.
The Elba Township Fire Department was one of 20 Michigan fire departments to receive the funding and one of 5,000 nationwide selected from the 19,000 applicants.
The grant was announced by U.S. Rep Dale E. Kildee, D-Flint.
"We must continue to provide more funding to ensure the safety and preparedness of those brave men and women who continually risk their lives to protect our lives," Kildee said.
