The Greater Eastside Community Association has received a $175,000 federal grant to fight drug-related crime. The association received the money through the federal "Weed and Seed" Program, which works toward eliminating violent crime and restoring neighborhoods.
It will use the money toward four goals: Seek the forfeiture of property of drug traffickers to reduce drug crimes, reduce domestic violence through sting operations and citizen reporting, reduce robberies by working with community churches and organizations to increase safe-haven locations, and increase home ownership.
The grant was announced by U.S. Rep. Dale E. Kildee, D-Flint.
