The Fair Elections Coalition has praised Rep. Dale Kildee , D-Flint, for his efforts at campaign reform.
Kildee was cited for co-sponsoring the bipartisan Fair Elections Now Act, which targets special interest spending in Washington.
As health care overhaul looms, "the health care industry continues to spend millions on campaign contributions to influence lawmakers," the coalition said in a statement.
The Fair Elections Now Act provides congressional candidates with public financing after they have received many small donations. The House legislation, which was introduced by Rep. John Larson , D-Conn., has 114 co-sponsors, more than half of the 218 lawmakers needed to pass the legislation.
