| Public television station WFUM Channel 28 received a $683,236 federal grant to convert to a digital system.
The funding will goes toward the purchase of a transmitter and studio-transmitter link, the first phase of the project.
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration awarded the grant announced by U.S. Rep. Dale E. Kildee, D-Flint.
"These funds will enable WFUM to continue to enhance our community while facilitating a smooth transition to digital television," Kildee said.
WFUM also is supported by more than 8,000 donors. The station plans to take advantage of its increased bandwidth by working with schools and universities.
