Congressman Andrews Speaks to Ways to Put People Back to Work

Deptford—Thursday, Congressman Andrews addressed the South Jersey Development Council on ways to bring jobs and prosperity back to South Jersey. Andrews highlighted numerous large projects requiring major investment as well as the needs of local small businesses to spur our recovering economy.

Among the many projects discussed, Andrews mentioned several that he has recently helped to make possible. The new Port of Paulsboro—currently under construction—will usher in a robust wind energy industry. The new Cooper Medical School at Rowan University in Camden nears completion and promises to be a launching pad for bio-tech and research jobs; Congressman Andrews recently secured funding for Cooper doctors to perform research using adult stem cells. The construction of new housing at Rutgers will be finished in August and will spur new stores, restaurants and jobs as the university accepts more students. Camden County College, too, is constructing a new science building that will foster the specialized knowledge to create the jobs of the future.

“While so many Americans are looking for work, it is the responsibility of private industry and public officials of every party to come together to invest in putting people back to work,” Congressman Andrews said. “Bold steps in industries like medical research, renewable energy and education are crucial to revitalizing our workforce and keeping America strong.”

As a member of the Education and the Workforce committee, Congressman Andrews will continue to meet with business leaders and developers large and small to find solutions that create jobs for his constituents and for the rest of the country.
