Congressman Andrews Announces Jobs and Safe New Housing for Glassboro Families
Glassboro, NJ - Tuesday, Congressman Andrews joined state and local officials to cut the ribbon at the Whitney Crescent housing development that created 40 construction jobs and 4 permanent jobs. Andrews helped preserve $4.7 million in federal aid for the project that is now being occupied by 80 low-to-moderate income South Jersey families.
The Whitney Crescent housing development replaces the Bentley Woods apartment complex that had fallen into a state of disrepair and was no longer a safe place to raise a family. Whitney Crescent provides an affordable quality environment where parents can safely raise their children. The 80 energy-efficient apartments include hardwood floors, washers and dryers in each unit and dishwashers. Residents also benefit from 24-hour emergency maintenance and on-site property management. The project is situated near Rowan University and is within easy access to the Atlantic City Expressway.
“The growth and opportunity that this development brings to Glassboro is long overdue,” said Congressman Andrews. “The country, more than anything else, needs jobs and strong families, and this new neighborhood contains all the elements to make that happen. The formula for success and job growth in America is right here at Whitney Crescent.”
On January 28, 2009, Congressman Andrews voted for the American Recovery Reinvestment Act (ARRA) that created and preserved millions of jobs in the face of economic crisis, while providing $2.25 billion in low-income housing tax credits to make projects like Whitney Crescent possible. As our country faces its highest unemployment rate in 16 years, Congressman Andrews is committed to helping struggling families find work and improve their quality of life.
