Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) today released the following statement on the State of the Union:
“President Bush has called for an ‘ownership society’ but under this administration’s fiscal policy, the only thing our children and grandchildren will own is a staggering federal deficit.
“A true ownership society empowers all of its citizens. It does not saddle them with record debt. And it does not leave behind the most disadvantaged. Yet this administration continues to cut funding and support for homeless veterans, hungry kids, and hard-working families who lack affordable housing.
“As we reflect on the state of our union, I call on the president to return to a time of fiscal responsibility. I also ask him to fulfill our nation’s responsibility to provide for the freedoms of all Americans, including the disadvantaged and discouraged.
“For struggling Americans, an ‘ownership society’ that ignores those who own nothing will serve as yet another hollow dream.”
