Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) congratulated Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron Two (VQ-2) on their arrival at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NAS Whidbey) from Rota, Spain. “Welcome to Whidbey, families and members of VQ-2!
“VQ-2’s arrival is great news for the Oak Harbor community and its economy. This move further establishes NAS Whidbey as a central hub of Navy aviation reconnaissance missions.
“We welcome these folks with open arms to a beautiful, safe, and friendly community that is excited to greet them in person.
“The future is bright on Whidbey Island. With VQ-2’s arrival, it just got brighter.”
The move comes as part of the Department of Defense’s transformation of forces in Europe. VQ-2’s move will allow it to operate with its sister squadron, VQ-1, currently stationed at NAS Whidbey.
Larsen serves on the U.S. House Armed Services Committee. |
