Washington, DC - U.S. 431 should receive $1.2 million for improvements in Randolph County, Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Anniston) said today.
The federal grant, included as a line item in a bill passed by the House Transportation & Treasury Appropriations subcommittee, will go toward improving traffic flow and safety in Wedowee, as well increase mobility on the heavily-trafficked East Alabama corridor. The bill will soon be considered in the House Appropriations committee and move to the full House for consideration.
“U.S. 431 is the Main Street of East Alabama and vital to our region’s economic growth,” Rogers said. “I am pleased we are making these investments in the highway, and will continue to press for even greater funding for the corridor.”
The $1.2 million grant will help pay for a center turn lane in Wedowee that extends into Randolph County. The new lane will help eliminate accidents and speed north-south traffic through the highly congested area.
Rogers added he is working to help fund long-term plans for the highway, which include replacement of U.S. 431’s current two lanes with a four-lane divided highway along most of the route through East Alabama.
