Rogers: Brown v. Board Raised
Hopes for All Americans
Statement at 50th Anniversary of Historic Supreme Court Ruling

Washington, DC  -  Congressman Mike Rogers made the following remarks today on the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, the historic Supreme Court ruling that outlawed the doctrine of “separate but equal.”

“Brown v. Board is the foundation by which all Americans can look for hope – hope for their children, hope for their families, and hope for a better future.

“We have made considerable progress in the years since that ruling. Children of all races now freely attend the same schools, and families of all races and backgrounds now freely work, worship and play together. Brown v. Board helped unite us all, and gave us all great pride knowing we all are truly E Pluribus Unum – one people out of many.

“But there is still work to be done.  On this important day I ask that all Alabamians pause and remember the court’s decision, and talk with our children about its importance. Most of all, we should remember all of us are capable of individually helping advance the spirit of equality for all.”
