Washington, DC - Congressman Mike Rogers congratulated the students and faculty of Chattahoochee Valley Community College today for receiving a $350,000 grant to fund a new program for technology education.
The grant, administered by the U.S. Department of Education, will be used to train faculty and staff on the use of technology-based instruction in the classroom, as well as allow the college to expand its course offerings through a new degree program called Visual Communications Technology.
“Education and technology are essential for improving the lives of all Alabamians,” Rogers said. “These investments in Russell County will help expand the choices available to students and provide Chattahoochee Valley with more resources to help train East Alabama’s workforce.”
Chattahoochee Valley students will have increased access to new and improved computer facilities, Rogers said, and benefit from instructors trained in the most up-to-date technology teaching models. Rogers also mentioned the federal grant will help fund a new distance learning initiative, which will allow CVCC students the option of taking courses online.
The grant also funds a new program in Visual Communications Technology, which when completed will provide students with a certificate or Associate of Applied Science degree. This program will help expand CVCC’s course offerings to meet the growing local demand for technical degrees in technology.
