Washington, D.C. - Congressman Mike Rogers congratulated Lanett Fire & EMS today for receiving a $15,120 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
“The men and women of Lanett Fire & EMS are the area’s first line of defense,” Rogers said. “This grant will provide direct support for their work, and ultimately make Chambers County a safer place to live.”
The Fire Prevention Program, administered under the 2003 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, funds public education and awareness activities, fire codes enforcement activities, fire inspector certifications, purchase and installation of smoke alarms and fire suppression systems, wildland fire mitigation, and arson prevention and detection activities.
“I also appreciate the assistance of state Senator Gerald Dial and state Representative DuWayne Bridges with this project,” Rogers added.
Passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bush, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program provides funds to the nation’s firefighters to increase the effectiveness of fire department operations, improve fire fighter health and safety programs, purchase new equipment, enhance EMS programs, and support prevention and safety programs.
