Workforce Training, Roads & Bridges, Ft. Benning Top Priorities for Opelika, Auburn, Phenix City Leaders

Washington, DC -
Auburn and Opelika leaders are concerned about building a skilled workforce and improving roads and bridges. Phenix City officials want a new Guard and Reserve Center and to strengthen Ft. Benning’s military presence in the Valley area. Such were some of the concerns Freshman Congressman Mike Rogers heard today in meetings with city leaders in the Third District.

“My job is to represent the interests of our local leaders and citizens in Washington,” Rogers said. “City leaders have been reaching out and I will do my part in building this partnership.”
Opelika Mayor Barbara Patton and Auburn Mayor Bill Ham both discussed the need to build a skilled workforce to attract and develop new jobs. They also described their need for transportation dollars to improve local roads and bridges.
Phenix City Mayor Sonny Coulter spoke of strengthening Ft. Benning. With thousands of military personnel stationed in the area, the Army base has a huge economic impact on both sides of the Chattahoochee River and the Phenix City mayor wants to ensure its health.
Rogers also mentioned his Opelika office will have an open house soon and encouraged local residents to contact him there with concerns. The Opelika office phone number is (334) 745-6221.
