Rogers Secures $200,000 for
Opelika Armory Restoration
Earmark Will Fund Construction and Rehabilitation

Washington, DC  -  Congressman Mike Rogers announced today the City of Opelika should receive $200,000 to help restore and rehabilitate the historic Dallas B. Smith Armory. Rogers secured the funds in the VA-HUD Appropriations bill for FY04 which was recently passed by the House of Representatives.

“Restoring and improving this historic facility is essential for the growth and development of Opelika,” Rogers said. “I am pleased to have helped secure these funds, and hope the Senate will pass this bill in short order so local officials can offer even better programs for our children and families.”

The House approved the legislation, known as the Omnibus, on December 8 by a bi-partisan vote of 242-176. The legislation should pass the Senate in January and be sent to the president for his signature.

“I also appreciate the assistance of Senators Shelby and Sessions with this project, as well as Opelika Mayor Barbara Patton,” Rogers added.
