Washington, DC - Congressman Mike Rogers congratulated the citizens of Randolph County today for being the recipient of $96,568 for the renovation of the historic Randolph County courthouse in Wedowee.
The federal grant, included as a line item in an appropriations bill passed by Congress in February, will allow the historic structure and its annexes to be upgraded. The Department of Housing and Urban Development recently gave final approval to the grant, which will be distributed to the Randolph County Commission.
“I am pleased to see we are continuing to make these investments in Randolph County,” Rogers said. “I thank Governor Riley for his previous efforts in Congress to secure these funds, and look forward to helping see this project to completion.”
The Alabama Legislature created Randolph County in 1832 from land ceded by the Creek Indians, naming the county for Virginia statesman John Randolph. The original courthouse was destroyed by fire in 1897.
