Mike Rogers Sworn In as
Third District Congressman
Casts First Vote for Conservative Speaker Dennis Hastert

Washington, DC -
Anniston native Mike Rogers accepted the Congressional Oath of Office on the floor of the House of Representatives today, formally accepting the title of Congressman for Alabama’s Third Congressional District.

Rogers took the Oath from newly re-elected House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-IL) with his left hand placed upon the House Bible and his right raised in allegiance. Rogers’ three children, Emily, Evan and Elliot, joined the former state legislator and lawyer on the House floor during the brief ceremony, accompanying the other 434 Members and their families to witness the swearing in.

“Today is one of the most exciting days of my life,” Rogers said. “I feel truly blessed to be here. There is simply no way today could be possible if it wasn’t for the help of literally thousands of Alabamians over the past two years. I am humbled to be here and am proud to represent the citizens of East Alabama in Congress.”

After picking up his Member pin and voting card in the Speaker’s Lobby at 11:30, Rogers went to the House Floor where he was officially sworn in. From there, Rogers went back to his office to be with family and friends.

Rogers went on to say, “I am going to work tirelessly over the next two years to work on behalf of Third District citizens.”

Democrats elected Rep. Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco as their leader.
